My Song Eternal

I need a clock, with a luminous dial
That my tired old eyes
Can see
How much of the night remains

I have tried to count the ticks
But with each tick, a memory comes
Making me wider
And wider awake

Yet what is gone
Is gone forever
And now I wait, with bated breath
For it, to ebb away

When I die
Take the fire from my hearth
And let it consume me
That, which kept me alive

I will be born again and again
And yet again
Till infinity
Or till I need the clock no more
