Nails

Those spiteful people
soaked their hands
in the hot red blood
of Jesus
For no reason at all
the raging mob
hurled curses
on the nails
The nails endured all
They were damn sure
the nails would be doomed
to the bottomless pit of hell
Relentless silence dragged
three black nights
Eventually the cock
ushered in the dawn

The first shaft of sunlight
sighted the miracle
All the wooden planks
of the coffin
suddenly gave way

Along with Jesus
only the nails
were resurrected
