A beautiful bird
With bright plumes
Sits in an empty nest
Hiding behind the branches
On which the nest is built
The nest looks small
But proves to hold strong
And warms even the deepest chill
It is not always empty though
The bird fills it when she can
And pampers the visitor
Staying inside
The visitors don’t seem to stay long
They take some warmth with them
When they leave
But there’s always enough
For when the next visitor comes
The brid always looks
For a permanent tenant
But can’t seem to find
Someone who only takes
What the need form the nest
The kind of visitor
That helps mend things
On rainy days
And the visitor that
Is content in a nest
As small and unsightly
As the birds
