Nobody To Know

Poem By Lawrence S. Pertillar

You are nobody to know as 'somebody'.
When struggling alone.
Doing what has to be done to do.
And overnight it seems,
With your struggle unchanged.
What it is done you do is noticed.
By more than a few.
Then out of the blue,
You become that somebody to know.
As others claim they knew to know you too!
Although the doing of the struggle,
Remains the same.

"Oh.
So now that it is known,
By others what it is you do.
You think you are better than the rest of us.
Struggling."

'What are you talking about? '

"Don't pretend what you do,
Has not been noticed."

'What do you expect from me?
An apology? '

"Well...
At least some acknowledement,
Of your struggle."

'What? '
