Nostalgia Songs

Poem By Lex Newman

Sifting through musty old tapes
Singing nostalgia songs
Rusted doorknobs and faded wood
Pictures of a picture
Memories of a time once beautiful
Remembering her
And the way the sun shone
On her thick black hair
And the cream-colored shirt with the satin shoulder straps
All the memories
Tossing them on to the street,
Homeless,
Stopping a moment to wish them back
Then turning to sit on an overturned milk crate
And cry.
