The story of a fallen leader; the captain of a ship that has been through battle. The symbolism is of the Civil War and the captain that has won the battle but doesn't get to bask in glory is Abraham Lincoln. Very sad.

A great tribute to a brave and courageous Captain of a ship which had to pass through a tumultuous waves and a hostile weather but braved all adverse situations to reach its destination. But, ironically he had to sacrifice his life in this endeavor. Thanks a lot.

That is horrible that you would use a mechanical voice to recite those lines. Do even respect

One of the first poems I learned in 3rd grade. Heart felt, sorrowful, respectful poem. 'They' don't write them like this today; it's a shame.
