Poem By Lawrence S. Pertillar

Hey, O.G.

"You have me confused for someone else.
That's not my name."

I know.
But to me?
You're still O.G.

What does that mean? "

Old guy?

"What makes you think I'm an old guy? "

Think it?
I know it.
I say it out of respect.
You're as old as you feel.
What should I call you?

I don't know.
I had been feeling much younger.
How old do I look? "

Let's see.
My dad is in his 40s.
His dad is in his 60s.
And his dad is in his 80s.
And his...

Just a sec.
I would say...

"That's ok.
You're killing me."

I knew it.
My great grandfather would say the same thing.
He and his 5th or 6th wife,
Just had a baby.
I'm going to buy him some rum right now.
I would say...
You and he are around the same age.
But you...
You appear to be in your 70s.

"70s? "

All up in it.
And that's a compliment.
My great great grandfather?
You remind me of him.
Like you...
He still gets around too.
Whatever you're doing O.G.
You are blessed.
And remember...
Age ain't nothing but a number.

"OH...geeessshhh! "
