***[Of all pains]

Poem By Doris Kareva

Of all pains
that seize us,
sooner or later
we choose one
and let it
pour into us
to cast our
spirits. That is
our fate,
the self-casting pain;
that is our innermost
essence and form.

Translated by Doris Kareva and Andres Aule

fainting worlds.

Desert dogs run through my dreams,
light, fast, and silent,
just like the wind of God;
beautiful and regal, night after night

***[A seaside house]

A seaside house
always feels like it is a ship,
just landed.
