On A Dark Laneway

On a dark laneway by a disused factory doorway out of sight
Some mother's young daughter is dying tonight
Prostate on the cold hard concrete near her life's journey's end
From an overdose of narcotics alone without a rend

The mother who loved her is unaware she is lying
By an old disused factory doorway alone, friendless and dying
The daughter she loved who befriended bad company
Who in the flesh she will never more see

Her gift of life from her slowly slipping away
Tomorrow she will not see the dawn of day
In her early twenties she is dying on her own
The seeds of her demise in narcotics were sown

For some life can be tragic it does seem sad to say
Her mum and dad did not raise her to die in this way
She will never give birth to a child or be any man's partner or wife
Alone in a doorway losing her battle for life

Some mother's daughter is dying tonight
Tomorrow she will not wake to see daylight
In her twenty first year her life's journey at an end
Prostate on the cold concrete without a friend.
