On The Neglect Of Mangan

Though other Irish writers than he was deemed to be worthy of Worldwide literary note
James Clarence Mangan was arguably Ireland's greatest poet
One of the overlooked great writers by the literary critics of the World of today
He was a great Irish wordsmith of him one can say
In his lifetime his poems were not published outside of Ireland he was not widely known
But as a writer he was in a class of his own
In post famine Ireland in eighteen forty nine he died in Dublin in his forty sixth year
He was one whose passing went without a tear
On the poor poet of Dublin life was always tough
He was often hungry and lived and slept rough
Though many of his poems are living today
A great wordsmith with words he did have a way
He never dined with gentry or was hosted by a king or a queen
But he was the poet who wrote Dark Rosaleen.
