One For The Money
didn’t add up to any cents
but I’m still laughing since
I saw King Kong climbing the wall
rolling a beer keg across his chest
the heat being so stifling and
leaving in a whirlwind of bad temper
panting with indecent suggestions
after stepping on the cat’s tail.
The moon was low in the sky
spilling silver dollars of light on the water.
I laughed again at Grandma Mazur
setting the fashion for the afternoon showing,
wearing a pink-orange cotton blouse,
bright blue spandex shorts,
white tennis shoes and stocking rolled just above the knees,
being quoted saying, “Of course, I loaded the gun.”
Reading it was fun and so funny
finding secluded repositories,
reading comic books
under a blanket tent,
eating icing from Orios,
dispelling collected depressing thoughts.
Doing the breakfast thing,
not worried about chattering birds,
getting up later now,
you see I’m retired.
Can’t wait ‘til summer
to be mesmerized by the heat
and the swish of the windshield wiper.
Don’t know anybody
who needs to stay indoors,
when the wind is blowing
and his ears are unfolding.
It was hilarious hearing about Dorsey, Dickie and Cherokee
not forgetting Vinnie, Eddy, and Stephanie
including Lonnie, Ziggy and Morelli.
Thank you Janet Evanovich
I can’t wait to make the switch
and read Two For The Dough.
