Only In Memory Now

The last time i climbed to the cross on Clara's summit
On a November day twenty five years ago
The weather dry but the mountain air was chilly
Since the clock has ticked on and time has become my foe

The countryside of Sliabh Luachra and Duhallow green and lovely
By Caherbarnagh and the Paps of Shrone
And Kippagh and Gortavehy as ever standing silent
Above the old fields in it's face of stone

Only in memory now i climb to the cross on Clara
And view the beauty in reality that i had often seen
But memories live though memories not the real thing
And in the mind they remain evergreen

Perhaps i will never again climb on Clara
And gaze and gaze on the amazing view
The scenery from the old hill quite amazing
A beauty witnessed by more than a few

I often climbed up to the cross on Clara
A long way north of this far southern shore
And gazed upon the beauty all around me
Above the high green fields of Claramore.
