Overheard By A Cynic

"The heady cup of love is filled with laughter..."
(Drink while you may. There'll come a 'morning-after)
"She's beautiful - such eyes and hips so trim.."
('til her arthritis comes and eyes grow dim.)
"You don't find many like him ..gives her all his cash..."
(His clothes, from Savile Row, cut quite a dash.)
"He likes a bet, but then he never loses."
(His wife perhaps? She covers all the bruises.)
"What a fine guy, he works so long and hard..."
(And bottles fill the dustbins in his yard.)
"I know him inside out and through and through...."
(Not if the rumors that I hear are true.)
"There's always hope; the doctors can't be right..."
(Too bad, old thing, he died the other night.)
