Past Talent (Free Verse)

Poem By Andrea Cebrecos

She had abandoned her passion
A passion she had once called a gift
Claiming she no longer had time
Trading it for what now seemed more important
Her school life

The thought of mixing the two once went through her mind
But she quickly waved it away
After all
She really didn’t have time
Studies always came first

But she always boasted about her talent
Telling everyone how she had played for many years
Deep down she knew she was lying though
Even though the years had been real
She had left it due to no time

Then one day she pulled it out
And gazed at its almost new golden frame
But as she set it up and tried to play
She found that she couldn’t
Because she had forgotten to give it at least a part of her day

The close is what did it for me. Well-written piece, dear.
