Picking Up A Pen

Poem By george simons

picked up this pen, to write my words
then realized how much my mind wanders
i found this paper, to hold these words
then i realized how much my hands shake
i tried my best, to spell things right
but i realized, the words are what matter
she is far away from me, but close to my heart
knowing she cares, makes me smile
maybe fate, caused our paths to cross
but whatever the case, im glad i found her
sometimes gifts come with fancy bows and ties
today on her birthday, i think to myself
what can i do to remind her?
to thank her for looking out for me
for letting her know her words matter
to let her know that she makes me smile
