Pie

Pie

Poem By Francis Santaquilani

Pie is a great idea

Like Rome was.

It's the idea of pie that keeps

My nose pressed to the bakery window

Decades after I've grown tired

Of the taste and smell.

A wedge of pie, on

A white plate beside

A tall glass of milk,

Cannot inspire or satisfy like pie

Whole and uncrumbled

On display behind glass or

Cooling on a windowsill.

Whole and uncrumbled,

Like the colosseum in Rome in its day.
