Plastic Roses

Poem By Barth Echezona Nwankwo

Smiles so unreal
Avowals of love so automatic,
Like turning on a light bulb.
Those were all i needed to know
That our garden of love will only but grow,
plastic roses.

Blinded with comforts promised by now,
I towed the path of our foolish fantasy
Even after the air whispered to me
That someone might cry someday.
But somehow, the thought of tears
could not tear us apart:
Me, you and our folly
From waking up every morning
And finding plastic roses
Littered on same soil
That might have grown more real ones.
