Poets War

Having read all this poetry
I am still wondering on a simile
And another in my head arose
What the heck is a prose

Bouncing round in my head
Are all the things that I've read
Robert Service and his Sam McGee
To Wilfred Owens Futility

They tell me a poets word will rhyme
What the heck I haven't time
Then what is a meter for
Or even that damn metaphor

Am I comparatively dumb
Or the simile illustrates the total sum
Now prose is speech so tedium
Plain experiences, straightforward and humdrum

So a meter is something that will rhyme
I guess I can measure that any time
Now we come to that edible metaphor
He shall eat his words that's for sure

Now poets can gather all the words
Into sentence of multitudinous herds
No rhyme or reason or is it true
Just have fun, a laugh for you
