Thundering wheels of rubber heated
Mobile steel goes undefeated
Thumping pistons, grotesque loads
Pound and grind along our roads
Destinations, miles away
Blow outs? breakdowns? who can say
Containers, trailers, tankers plunder
Over bridges and then under
Slow lanes, fast lanes, overtaking
Diesel blackness, intimidating
Undeterred, pressing on
Time dictates and one by one
Eating up the miles they travel
Cargoes range from cheese to gravel
Whirring engines winding down
Pace much slacker enters town
Whatever the weather, fine or wet
Truckers know the deadline's met.
