Reclaimation

Sitting high on the mountain
watching
the forest beneath me
smiles
Something here feels so
familiar
A Hawk lands near me
welcoming
The Hawk asks, 'Brother will you not fly with me? '
silently
My awareness shifts
backward
To a time when I did fly above the mountains
soaring
My wings caressing the wind
gently
So peaceful life seems when you are a thousand feet above
flying
I return to the present
awakening
My Hawk still waiting
wondering
I stand and face the edge
nervous
My Hawk reassures me with a wink and takes to the wind
sailing
I stretch out my arms and embrace the wind
falling
Descending my soul remembers and responds
transforming
My arms shift to become wings
spreading
I catch the wind
gliding
My hawk circles me
lovingly
Peace is there among the clouds
waiting
Moving, traveling the sky is mine
tranquil
I remember what it all means now
embracing
What I have lost this lifetime
Freedom
