Reflections

See that little boat, bobbing on the sea,
Filled with refugees from Cuba, longing to be free,
The man at the helm, is looking for the shore.
Their money fills his pockets. He wants to earn more.

Raul, Raul, with his people pool,
He earns lots of money,
His days are always sunny,
Raul, Raul, he is no fool!

The boat is so fragile, and the water is so black,
A woman large with child, wants to go back.
Rush-a-shush, Rush-a-shush,
The sea murmurs its lullaby,
There is no turning back - not now.
Silently a collective prayer rises to the sky,
'Please let us make it, someway, somehow! '

The man at the helm studies the people in the hold,
'If the Coast Guard starts to chase us
losing that pregnant woman would lighten our load.
Luckily, she's too weak to make a fuss.'

Raul, Raul with his people pool,
He earns lots of money,
His days are always sunny,
Raul, Raul, he is no fool!

'Good evening folks,
Today legislators drafted
several tough anti-illegal
immigration measures...'
