Remembering Grandpa’s Barn

Poem By Marilyn Lott

I remember grandpa’s barn
And my experiences lovingly
Every board though old and tired
Bring sweet memories back to me

So many times as a kid
I’d climb that tired ladder again
And right at the top of the loft
We’d all risk our life and limb

For we had a rope dangling there
And we’d grab ahold of it
Swinging wildly into the air
And onto the soft hay we’d hit

In peals of childhood laughter
We’d climb right up once more
Oh yes, such fun we had
For we knew what was in store

And now, today, I take a deep breath
And remember that hay-loft smell
Wonderful memories it evokes
So many stories I could tell

Oh grandpa, how I remember
How much fun we’d have, it’s true
And I’ll miss it as long as I live
But most of all I’ll miss you!
