Through dark streets I ride
where cones of amber intersect the dark
In the distance dogs bark
And in gardens hedgehogs hide
All I can hear is the click of chain
Momentum increases, distance gained
Windows either side in darkness or light
Oh what life may hide in their veiled bright.
No other soul upon the street,
the occasional cat in distrust stares
It's gaze I meet,
in an instant, he loses care.
Homeward staggers a lonely drunk
Wavering side to side as if aboard ship
The voyage home to bunk
And unconsiousness slip
