YSN (19th july 1989 / amedzofe, volta region, ghana)

we come to you
bearing gifts of oil and saphire
to make a sacrifice at your feet
we come as humble servants
weary from toiling on the fields
the sweat on our brow bears us proof
of our hardwork and dedication
we come without fear nor remorse
just plain gratitude to the master
our pots are full of food and wine
our farms are ripe with growth
our bellies are filled to the brim
our lips are full of smiles
we come to make a sacrifice
of fat lamp and hen
to the master of the land
for giving us a reason to be alive
