See-Saw Memory

I was bred by April in May,
And that was when the morning birds flew-
When the tugboat broke the ring of flowers in the bay.

When I heard the gull sneeze, I immediately withdrew back to yesterday.

For since then I have come to pass
the empty seas whose waters grasp
the open hands of fathers passed;

And by and by, through here, I say,
with belittled intent, I shall play; I shall play.
