Separate Ways

My mind recalls sweet memories
of how we intertwined our dreams,
but dreams give way to fantasies
when life becomes more than it seems.

Two lovers wrapped in warmth's embrace,
engrossed outside reality;
until the day she searched his face
to find the truth in what could be.

A question posed, 'What do you seek? '
would change direction of their course.
Their joyful journey reached the peak
as words of fact would bring remorse.

Revealed unto her sobbing heart,
a burning want she could not meet.
Their blissful world was ripped apart
as blooming love fell to defeat.

A fire of anguish swept their souls,
for neither wanted to release,
but hands of fate retain controls
and stole from them a growing peace.

Not meant to walk a lonely road
their spirits long for yesterdays;
where streams of love had overflowed,
before their paths went separate ways.
