She Died Right There Before Me

Poem By Mary Nagy

To me, she could've said anything
I wanted so badly to hear her say,
''I love you and I'm gonna try.''
But all she said is ''I just can't stay.''
She looked away, I stared her down.
I needed to see her eyes.
She looked at me and that's when I knew...
She died right there before me.
I watched her fade away.
Her eyes were glossing over
as I begged her ''PLEASE, JUST STAY! ''
She said goodbye and drove away.
I've learned to deal with loss.
But, now she says ''I'm coming back! ''
She doesn't know the cost.
To me she's dead, she can't come back.
She'll have to remember the day
that she died right there before me
when she said she couldn't stay.

Wow, Mary, interesting twist on the title and an amazingly powerful write. Brian
Sometimes the ones you love don't have to drive away to die, sometimes it takes years to shed. Sometimes they just walk around and you pretend they're alive, when they're really the walking dead. Emotion in this was remarkable. Loved it. - K.
Such a brave and original poem deserves the same compliment, but I also want you to know that this gave me goosebumps, even though I'm not the first to say so. Thank you for your courage with words that must be terribly difficult to string together.
So now I've travelled the world of all you poems and it's been a revealing and rewarding journey. Thank you so much
Self preservation - sometimes we have to walk away. Isn't it interesting that, just when the wounds have started to heal, they come back to open them again. avr
