Ship Without A Name
It is a ship that no longer answers,
by Jacques du Lumerie
No matter how much you call it,
No matter how much its name
Is never spoken but in grace.
It is there, you can see it,
Until you are almost astern,
Then it fades into spots and vanishes,
Before the light of your eyes.
I swim for that ship.
Cry out to the sirens to help,
But they only laugh from the deep,
Their voices hidden in the waves.
'Ma fille, mine Tochter, my daughter! '
I cry, but there is no reponse
From the day that lasts forever
And the ship without a name.
