Sideways

Sitting sideways at a random coffee shop
Casually trying to stop the hands of time
While drinking down a hot mint mocha
Within this everpresent moment sublime

My mind wanders and carelessly lingers
Inside this cold warm misbegotten place
Where I delve deep into your beautiful face
While counting memories on my fingers

Suddenly my capricious thoughts turn to you
While asking how come the moon is blue
Like my heart that was already broken
Well before your words were ever spoken

It's during fragmented moments like these
I want to get down on my hands and knees
Crawl into times sheltering carapace
Hide deep inside its protective embrace

I surely hope I become somebody else someday
Outside of that precocious little girl 4 years old
Standing in their front yard holding fears at bay
Trying not to feel like a lost child whose been sold

Already I was tired of moving from place to place
With a docile smile plastered upon my face
Oh God won't you give this little girl a home
My tiny feet are tired of this endless roam

Now I'm tired of endless come-n-go lovers
Who only remind me of that forlorn day
When I thoughtlessly walked away
From your hand offering love above others

It's during fragmented moments like these
I want to get down on my hands and knees
Crawl into times sheltering carapace
Hide deep inside its protective embrace

It's late and all the tables are almost empty
Except for one couple sitting in the corner
Staring longingly into each others eyes
I hope their words are more than empty lies

My once full cup has finally run dry
Almost like my empty begging wallet
So I ask the night sky oh why oh why
Do we remember instead of forget

As I fool myself my hands stopped time
While thoughts once again return to you
Turning this rather ordinary moment sublime
'Cause the moon is beautiful when it's blue

It's during fragmented moments like these
I want to get down on my hands and knees
Crawl into times sheltering carapace
Hide deep inside its protective embrace
