Silence In The Moonlight

Oh, still was the night I first saw you
Quiet under the moon
The silence was so utterly determined
Not to whisper, dare it break first
But I let it win
Because I proclaimed in murmured ecstasy
All that I would know of you
In days to come
In the dark mornings, just before daybreak
The birds are not singing, but how ready they are
Ready to burst forth and slash the silence, smash it to pieces
With the chorus of the world
But the moments before are ours alone
I savor them like the night
The little stars, all the little voices
In blank verse, calling out to the universe in wonder
Yes, yes I've found you
And the night and the moon and the stars are with us
Dawn is waiting to break
Just for us
