Since Hanna Moved Away

The tires on my bike are flat.
The sky is grouchy gray.
At least it sure feels like that
Since Hanna moved away.

What is the genre
Loved the poem.
(Since Hanna Moved Away - Poem by Judith Viorst.) **Love the title, format and style. Has a nice ring.
Sweet Poem of sadness.
I've never read a poem about how agonizing it could be for child to lost their best friend, so I give her credit for originality. However, as with many modern poets, I don't understand how they can be so satisfied with mediocrity. I guess it is from the perspective of a kid, so it's supposed to be simplistic, but still. It just bothers me the way modern art bothers me. Why with the technology we have, online dictionaries, online rhyming dictionaries, millions of poems at your disposal, endless resources etc. does poetry not regress in technical skill, but only get better and better. Why is there not a hundred new Shakespeares? Are the Shakespeares out there but we just ignore them to celebrate mediocrity instead? If yes, why?
Hats off to the poet for such a brilliant poem. This shows us the extent of void created by the absence of someone near and dear one like Hanna. Simply heart touching.
Sometimes a poem is lit up from the inside out by a verse or two. For me in this piece it was The sky is grouchy gray. It caught the age of the narrator and it caught the mood perfectly.
A touching sentimental poem depicting the emptiness created by the departure to a far off place by a close friend and her memories troubling the poetess. A piece of eternal literature. Enjoyed the poem very much. Thanks for sharing.
Attachment and friendship shared with Hannah and the going away of the person creating such a vacuum in the poetess life so well portrayed.. thanks for sharing
Lovely piece of poetry, well articulated and nicely penned with conviction. A beautiful poem indeed. Thanks for sharing.
Since Hannah moved away has touched me remembering a friend say last week all my friends left. (military child) I will e-mail this to him, to help him smile. This poem is real and funny, I reallly enjoy her work and style.
my name is hannah and if some one wrote a poem like this because i moved i would be touched haha who ever hannah is would love this and is very lucky
I love this poem! We are sending it to our beloved Pastor Dave as he has left us to become a chaplain in the army. 'Since Dave moved away' doesn't flow quite as nicely as Hannah does, but the feelings are the same! I think Judith Viorst has a wonderful and funny way of capturing the ups and downs of life!
didn't think you felt that way! Shall i move back?
