Sister Say

Poem By E.D. Campbell

Have your baby
pushing limbs of fire out at every corner,
watch one birth yielding another

Bring her, wash her, feed her
like the daughters we were
and the universe will not be held
by the spinning of new steps,
either direction,
this is not all the business
of life stealing

Scratching at the soil
and pawing at my door
is a waste of all kinds of time
when your blood is already pumping

Have your baby,
limbs of fire in a new place,
bring her burning, bring her sparking
bring her home
