Sixteen Penny Nails

Hand driven sixteen penny nails
With my hammer drove the nails myself
I built the floor and I raised the walls
Put in the windows and designed the halls

I built the roof and the big bedrooms
Plastered ceilings and I painted too
Built the shelves my own self
Wall to wall carpet and it's all brand new

I went and picked out every light
Installed the switches and it lights up bright
Marble floors along the doors
The dream of a home I never had before

Now I'm sitting in this big new home
With my own hands built it on my own
Somehow it doesn't seem to matter at all
If I'm sitting in the middle and I'm alone

Hand driven sixteen penny nails
With my own hands drove each nail myself
Honey come home where you belong
All it needs is love can't be done myself

Somehow it doesn't seem to matter at all
If you're not here to be a part of it all
Sitting in the middle carpet wall to wall
When your the loneliness one of all.
