Slice Into Flesh
Poem By Lily Espinosa
Glass shards, marble and stone,
Entwine around the small child’s neck,
They tighten and squirm,
They strangle the soul,
Choke the life out of the fragile body.
All innocence lost, hungry for more,
Answers, knowledge, reassurance this is the right path,
Come with their own price to pay.
Death welcomes the child,
Life shoos it away.
The struggle concludes,
Marble stairs encased in beauty,
Show the path to be walked,
Foot upon the last nurturing step,
The child gives a wave, a small hopeful smile,
And suddenly death seems like a small price to pay.
