Slieve Croob Mountain
How many sunsets arose behind your peaks?
by Muriel Rachael Graham
Rippling water in the valleys
Quenched the thirst of "blackfaced" sheep.
Shrouded in purple heather or
The yellow of the gorse
Thunder rolled and lightning flashed
subsided, when it done it's worst.
Rumbled on among the drumlins
Complaining it hadn't achieved its goal
Standing stark against the skyline only
Showed the beauty of your soul.
Slieve Croob Mountain stands secure
In your shadow I grew up
Learned to trust in your creator
Faced the tempest in darkest hours
Said hello to misty mornings
Midst the heavenly perfumed flowers.
