Socrates

The wise old Socrates,
Questioned all traditional beliefs!
And urged the men of Greece, -
To look within - and examine their
lives and think!
But those disoriented Greeks,
And the pleasure seeking rulers
of Athens,
Refused to think, or make any false
pretence!
They condemned Socrates and made
him drink,
The bitter poison hemlock, whose lethal
powers, made him gradually sink!
Yet till his very end, Socrates remained
fearless!
And instructed his followers, to remain
in good cheer!
For the poison hemlock would knock
him out cold!
But would finally unlock his eternal
Soul!

Should you condemn or criticize the powers
that be,
While living outside a free country,
Be prepared to meet a similar fate,
With the supreme sacrifice of death!
