Dido stands upon the wall to watch
Aeneas sailing on to destiny
She is the Queen of Hearts, alone
Tall among her ladies, all abandoned
By the fickle sailors

Sailing to their storms and trusted triumphs
Blown by gods and fates and destiny
Calling it Duty, leaving Loves,
The voyage they have chosen chosen for them
By the fickle gods;

Alone she watches, waits until the sail
The hopeful sail reversing destiny
Beyond the edge of unseen Seas
Falls into distance she cannot conceive
Blown by fickle winds

And to and fro the ladies sway and leave
Sighing forgetting this their destiny
While Dido glimpsing other Lives
Loosens her grip on what cannot be hers
Borne by unfickle fate.
