Sonnet: Functions Of A Poem

The poem a hundred times or more,
Must look anew and make hearts passionate;
And never make the reader’s mind, eyes sore,
Nor try to others ever imitate.

A poem must make readers hearts to feel,
The way the poet feels when poem’s writ;
And give a literary, untasted meal,
And make the man better, mentally fit.

A poem ought to serve the people’s cause,
And free the souls in devil’s grip for long;
A poem helps a man rethink and pause,
And heed the inner voice, avoiding wrong.

A poem takes a soul nearer to God,
Reminding man, he’s an especial clod.
