Sonnet: Love Is Better Than Lust

’Tis true that lust offers a great joy
To beginners, but in the longer run
By habit, live most in this vice and toy:
While life becomes always an eclipsed sun!

How long can hearts engage in sinful sport?
No doubt, the Tempter goads us on and on;
When life leads us to things of big import,
Can we this shameful attitude adorn?

Lust’s veil of beauty lasts but not for long!
The stain it makes on souls is tough to cleanse;
When sung, unenchanting becomes its song
And like a bolt from blue, God drives good sense!

Better is love than lust and this God wants
A man to know, ’fore he to God hymns chants.
