Sonnet: Prostitution

The age-old profession called harlotry
Survives till date, despite many onslaughts;
A legal way for all adultery,
Where men pay sums for the ‘joy’ of the cots!

But what tragic lives, prostitutes do lead?
Society needs them but will not respect;
Immoral traffic continues indeed;
But STD’s have reduced their prospect.

What teething problems beset these women!
In poverty born, die they in same way;
And satisfy the scores of lust-filled men!
By work during the nights sans sleep by day.

Who unfetters the poor afflicted souls?
Their lives get wasted in their sinful roles.
