Sonnet: The Darker Side Of The World-Coin

My heart throbs much for the millions homeless;
Stomachs all starved for days and perhaps weeks!
For ones with loin-cloths living still shameless;
For nomads who drink water from the creeks.

My heart feels sad for my weaker brethren;
For jobless youth who cannot hold heads high;
For justice-denied men, women, children;
For men in streets who some day like dogs die!

My heart goes out to the poor and helpless;
To untouchables and tribes ostracised;
To souls who live in darkness, quite helpless;
To brothers who are slaves, disenfranchised.

Yet, poverty exists amidst plenty!
And hearts, lungs, minds fail when men are twenty!
