Sonnet - The World's Like This

You give an inch and people take a mile;
You show them kindness which they don't deserve;
Be lenient and time they try to while;
Forgive them and thine enemies, they serve.

You condescend; they think you are a clown;
You help them and they show ingratitude;
A villager is crazy after a town;
Be gentle and they turn to be so rude.

The virtuous man lands up wrongly in vice;
From venial sins, he commits mortal ones;
There is no one who takes free good advice;
The brainy child works less and turns a dunce.

You cannot judge people in simple ways;
You can't believe the human ayes and nays.
