That You Seek

Poem By Yaritza Florencio

I woke up this morning in a cage
The bars were iron, the floors wood.
But then again, maybe it was my room
I woke up knowing, that I would leave if I could
That I would know, someday, if I should.
I woke up from my daydreams around midday.
Don't know what I saw, or why he was there
But by the look in his eyes, he had something to say
And by the things I surmise, it seemed he had strayed
I looked to the evening, as a way to forget
Not the cage, nor the dreams but the thoughts
The seams of my day fall apart, every now and then
When you leave or you stay or decide that you seek
Not me, or my thoughts, or your own
See, when you get confused and your outlook turns bleak
My dreams go grey, and my cage closes in
The cage is okay, but the thoughts are dark
The things that I feel, don't disappear
I wake up in the middle of the night
Then I'm not in the cage, but I hate you for being
Your there, confused and angry but happy
I'm happy too, but I'm confused and fleeing
I don't want to feel, you should be no exception
But your days are dark, so mine are too
It's raining in your dreams, and there's floods in mine
So I wake up in the morning, in a box
There are no bars, and the walls are wood
Your dreams change plans, the box starts to expand
It starts to fill up with water and I'm scared ill drown
I'm drowning and of course you are dry land
You save me every time before the end
And so I don't mind the cage, nor the dreams but the thoughts
The seams of my day fall apart, every now and then
When you leave or you stay or decide that you seek
Not me.
