The Magnificent West

Poem By Patrick O'Reilly

The better way
Is the more beautiful one
It is the greener quieter one
The better way has a park in it
And all the yellows and reds and greens
And shades in between that trees and flowers give-

The better way is one
In which the world is at peace
And even the darkest sky has a hidden light in it-

The better way is longer and slower
And sometimes impossible to choose
But when one can
And one does
One enjoys the walk more.

All I Wanted Was Poems

I didn’t want other kinds of words
I wanted poems
Because they helped me feel more alive
They gave me an intensity

Nothing Tells Me How To Begin Again

Nothing tells me how to begin again
Or even how to try

And how can I expect to do at the age of seventy- five?

I Must Continue To Write

There will always be another poem
And with that poem- hope
However absurd-
So even if I despair
