The Chess Game

Vanity is an integrated part
Of every artist:
Even their modesties are suspect,
To be understood
As cultivated pawns
Of crafty players
Drafting their own epitaphs.

'Vanity, vanity all is vanity.' even the most modest of us have it. We all need vindication even if only to a circle of of friends. BB
Definitely vanity is the powerful aspect of an artist. Very neatly presented such a beautiful poem. Wonderful.
Powerful piece of poetry nicely penned in poetic diction with insight. You really captured the essence of the poem with what I believe (I don't know the rules of the game of Chess) is an appropriate simile to drive home your conviction. I concur with your perspective. Indeed artists are proudly modest people chasing the vain glorification of beauty. Thanks for sharing. Please read my poem MANDELA - THE IMMORTAL ICON.
