The Day She Will Remember

Poem By Sally Nesmith

You left me in this place
as though i was a waste
you left me here alone
my life alone to face
why, was i not good enough
for you to call your own
for you to sit and wonder
if love could not of grown
i walk along this street
these thoughts run through my head
never to have a father
to dance when i am wed
never to have a mother
to fix up my new dress
to smooth out every wrinkle
these thoughts they do depress
so now here i must sit
my hands move up and down
i smooth out every wrinkle
and do not make a sound
and in my mind i know
that if i speak at all
my heart will hurt again
and again i'll fall
believe it or not i think
about you everyday
and wonder in my mind
would life turn out this way
today i walk this aisle
given away by one
that one will be myself
our relationship is done
but in my head i wonder
if you had only known
how much i really needed you
what love could you have shown
so yes, you are the parents
who gave their child away
when now she needs you most
her precious wedding day.
