The Dead Man's Song

The man who sits on death row
waiting for his turn
praying that the court jury
exposes his true innocence
he's scared to go to sleep at night
maybe he won't wake the next day
scared to say a single thing
doesn't want it to be his last
the only thing he speaks aloud
is the dead man's song

he sings 'god if you're out there,
please spare my life today
i haven't done a damn thing wrong
to deserve this much pain.'
and after his song is over
he cries his pain away

the man who sits on death row
is known as the weak one
the one who only sings and cries
and prays day and night
the other guys just want the man
to accept and move on
for the dead man's song he sings
makes them want to sing along
to the dead man's song

he sings 'god if you're out there,
please spare my life today
i haven't done a damn thing wrong
to deserve this much pain.'
and after his song is over
he cries his pain away

he's hoping that the day will come
when he sings a different song
the living man's song

he sings 'god if you're out there,
please spare my life today
i haven't done a damn thing wrong
to deserve this much pain.'
and after his song is over
he's crying his pain away.
