The Dirty Thirties

I needed to talk to somebody
and there was no one to talk to
except the wind.

When the heaven are bright,
With the light of the glittering stars;
Have I stood there amazed?
And asked as I gazed,
If their glory exceeds; that of ours,

Way down upon the river Niger
Far, far away
There is where my heart is turning ever;
The entire world is sad and dreary
Everywhere I roam, there is
Where the old folks stay.

When will I be with
my dream for the future?
All up and down the sad
creation sadly I roam
Darling, how my heart grows weary
Far from the old folks at home
when will I be fanned by the winds of love?
