The End Of Summer

The end of summer
and the shadows lengthen
down the garden.
A quietness seems to be falling,
the very air is quieter,
as if the long, winter sleep
has already begun.
Leaves, turning golden, red
and orange, start to float,
one by one,
landing on the pond,
on the cat, enjoying
the last warmth in the sun.
Before the autumn breezes
change to frosty, winter winds.

But for now, I enjoy
the feeling of timelessness,
as I see the shadows of the trees
on the grass.
As the end of summer
lengthens the shadows
down the garden.

I can see the shadows lengthening, I can see the twilight approaching.
