The First Morning After Yom Kippur 5774

THE FIRST MORNING AFTER YOM KIPPUR

The first morning after Yom Kippur
Wants a poem-
Holiness is called for
And yet I cannot sing it,
As we sung it through the longest day of prayer-

My mind is dry as Kohelet
Ahead to Sukkot-

Kohelet is not always right,
But about the main vanity of vanities
He is never wrong-

We have prayed for life
And in our joy after the fasting done
We feel more alive-

And yet waiting in the year ahead
All the questions and the doubts return-

In old age all fades and fails
But there may be for me time and purpose still
To try and contend with it -

May God in this year
Give us life and blessing
And not yet let the evil days come -
